Six Months of Refinement
Since starting out as a jeweller, I've worked on a lot of pieces that have challenged me and helped me improve my skills. But every now and then, a project comes along that really changes the way you think about your craft. I'm finally ready to share one that's been sitting on my workbench for quite a while, and it's a piece that's taught me a lot along the way.
When I first started working on this piece, I knew I wanted it to be something special. Not just another ring, but something that reflected the standard I set for my work. What made this project different was the journey behind it. From the start, the client had a clear vision and a lot of ideas, and together we spent months developing them into something that could actually be brought to life. It wasn't a case of me simply making a ring from a drawing. We bounced ideas back and forth constantly, combining his imagination with my knowledge of jewellery design to create something neither of us could have achieved alone.
Because of that, a lot of time was spent chasing things that most people may never notice, but that's what makes bespoke jewellery so rewarding to me. The smallest changes can completely transform a piece. I wasn't interested in taking shortcuts or settling for "good enough", and neither was the client. We both wanted every part of the ring to feel right, from the overall design down to the smallest details. Looking back now, I'm glad we took the extra time, because all those conversations, sketches, refinements and reworked ideas are what turned the original concept into something I'm exceptionally proud to put my makers mark on.
